Friends, can you even believe we’re about to close out a decade this coming week?!? I know I can’t! Andy and I were talking about it this morning, how much has changed as well as how much we have overcome in the past ten years. We have SO much to celebrate and be thankful for.
This time ten years ago I was pregnant with Sophie, Andy had just lost his job along with our health insurance and we were in the worst possible position financially to be starting our family. As overjoyed and thankful as we were to have a healthy baby on the way it was also the most stressed we had both ever been. It seemed like every time we started to get ahead something else would happen and we were back to square one. When I look back to those beginning years of Sophie’s life I don’t recall dwelling on what was going wrong or the things we didn’t have – all we knew how to do was work harder, pray more and focus on our blessings no matter how small.
There was a time when Andy and I only saw each other in passing – he would walk in the door from one of his two jobs and I would be heading out working nights and weekends with a baby that never slept. I honesty don’t know how we didn’t lose our minds haha, it was the most exhausting time in life I can ever remember. One of our huge blessings came in the form of a major promotion for Andy. It afforded me the ability to stay at home with Sophie but also kept him on the road Monday through Friday for over six years. While we were able to easily pay all of our bills for the first time ever I was holding down the fort as a single mom during the work week and man was that hard. It seemed like he was only home long enough to do his laundry most weeks but we made it work.
Currently Andy is able to be home so much more and I couldn’t be more thankful! I could seriously cry with happiness. He missed out on so much over the years being away and I will never take this time with him for granted (no matter how many messes he makes in the new kitchen haha!). Besides all of our hard work paying off, Sophie has thrived over the years in school as well as sports and amazes me every single day with her caring nature. Her thoughtfulness blows me away and the joy she brings to everyone she meets is enough to fill my heart for a lifetime. I couldn’t be more proud of the young lady she has become and getting to be her Mom is by far my greatest gift in life. I’m also in denial over the fact that my sweet girl will be turning TEN this coming year, OMG!
Tonight we’re headed out to a fun Hibachi dinner to celebrate all we have accomplished this year (as well as the past ten, because we deserve it lol)! No matter how big or small we should all celebrate the good things in life. I hope as this decade comes to a close we can look forward to a new one with excitement – you never know what the next day, week, month or year may hold and how many blessings are on their way for you!
